A roof replacement looks simple from the driveway. A truck shows up, old shingles come off, new ones go on. The photo on this page was taken by drone over one of our jobs in the Iredell and Rowan County service area. The crew is mid tear off on a two story white home. One slope is already stripped down to bare decking. That bare wood is where a new roof is won or lost, and it is the part a homeowner almost never gets to look at.
What the photo shows
The old red shingles are coming off the entire roof. Nothing is being layered over. A full tear off is the only way to actually see the deck under the shingles, and on this house the deck had something to tell us. Sections of the wood were rotted. We replaced them before any new material went down. After that the crew rolled Atlas Summit synthetic underlayment across the deck. That is the water barrier that sits under the shingles and does its job on the days the shingles are taking a beating.
Why we tear off instead of layering over
- ▸A second layer of shingles hides rotted decking instead of fixing it.
- ▸Nails have to bite into sound wood to hold shingles down in wind.
- ▸Extra weight sits on framing that was never designed to carry it.
- ▸Shingle warranties are written for a clean deck, not a covered up one.
What a new roof costs in Iredell and Rowan County
Roof replacement cost is the first thing most homeowners ask about, and the honest answer is that no roofing contractor can price your roof from the road. The number comes from the size of the roof, the pitch, how many layers are already up there, how much decking is bad once we open it up, and which shingle you choose. An architectural shingle roof prices differently than a basic three tab. We measure, inspect and give you a written price you can hold on to and compare. Financing is available if you would rather spread it out.
Who is on your roof, and why September matters
CER Roofing Contractors is family owned and has worked out of Mt Ulla since 2020. We are a GAF certified installer for the Weather Stopper system, a HAAG certified inspector and Atlas certified. We hold 5.0 stars across 96 Google reviews and an A+ rating with the BBB, and we are licensed and insured. We cover about 30 miles around Mt Ulla, from Lake Norman to Statesville and Mooresville to Salisbury. September is the month to get eyes on your roof. Hurricane remnants push wind through this part of North Carolina, and wind damage rarely looks like anything from the ground. Leaves are about to drop, so gutters should be clear before winter. If a summer storm hit your house, your insurance claim deadline is closer than most people think.
