This photo was taken on a full roof replacement in Landis. The old shingles are already off, Atlas Summit synthetic underlayment covers the deck, and our crew is laying new architectural shingles course by course.
Why we start at the wood
On a replacement the old roof comes all the way off. With the deck exposed we can see every soft spot, nail pop and stained board. Bad decking gets cut out and replaced before underlayment goes down. Once the new roof is on, nobody sees that wood again, so it has to be right first.
Synthetic underlayment, then shingles
Synthetic underlayment is the second line of defense under the shingles. It lies flat, holds up if it gets rained on before the shingles go on, and keeps water off the deck if a shingle is ever damaged. Then the shingles go on in straight, even rows from the eaves up to the ridge.
Is it time to look at your roof?
- ▸Shingles curling or cracking
- ▸Granules collecting in the gutters or at the downspouts
- ▸Stains on a ceiling or in the attic
- ▸A roof that is close to 20 years old
If any of that sounds familiar, request a free roof inspection. We climb up, take photos and walk you through what we find before anyone talks price.
