Clear Your Gutters Before the Leaves Drop

Late October is when the leaves come down across Iredell and Rowan County, and gutters fill up fast.

What a clogged gutter does

When a gutter cannot drain, water sits against the edge of the roof. It backs up under the drip edge, soaks the fascia board and finds its way to the roof deck. That is how rot starts at the eaves, and it usually stays hidden until a board goes soft.

What good looks like

The photo shows what you want: a gutter fastened tight to the house and a downspout carrying water down and away from the foundation.
