Roof Replacement in Iredell and Rowan County: Brick Ranch Job

A brick ranch in our Iredell and Rowan County service area needed a full roof replacement. The old shingles had given what they had. We stripped the roof, dried it in, and put a new system back on it. The photo shows the finished roof with the hip and ridge lines capped. This is the kind of work we do most weeks between Mooresville and Salisbury.

What went on this roof

The job started with a full tear off. Atlas Summit underlayment went down over the deck first, so the roof was protected before a single shingle was set. Then Atlas Pinnacle Pristine architectural shingles across the field, capped at the hips and the ridge. We set a new ridge vent and new pipe boots at the same time. The house has a chimney, and that is one of the spots we watch closest on a ranch. When the crew left, the roof was a complete system instead of new shingles laid over tired parts.

Why the ridge vent and the pipe boots matter

Most roof leaks do not start in the open field of shingles. They start at the penetrations. Pipe boots crack with age and let water run down the pipe and into the ceiling. An old ridge vent lets heat and moisture sit in the attic, which shortens the life of everything above it. Replacing those parts along with the shingles costs very little compared to going back into a finished roof later. A new roof that keeps the old boots on it is not really a new roof.
